Website for an artist and architect

Client:
Patricia de Isidoro (PDI)

When:
2018 - 2019

Patricia de Isidoro is a renowned artist and architect based in London.

Summary: a digital strategy project for an artist wanting to use social media to showcase her work for the first time.

Outcomes: concept for a new website, digital portfolio on Facebook and Instagram. Using digital marketing principles and analytics to find an online audience for her work.

Background:

I met Patricia when we were background players in the 2018 Mime Festival at The Barbican.

Off stage, I helped Patricia to set up her digital portfolio on social media (Facebook and Instagram) and created a digital strategy which included content for her channels.

I also prototyped a concept for a new website to compliment her social media presence.

Process:

Having worked with Patricia for a while, I knew that she preferred simple designs in order for the focus to be on her art. I kept the design simple and drew out the yellow from her branding and art as an accent colour throughout.
I used a responsive layout grid system which would adapt to screen size and ensures consistency throughout. A grid system also showcases the artwork with spacing to avoid a cluttered look.

Logo:

I was inspired by one of Patricia’s pieces ‘Rhizome, 2019’, which features yellow ginko biloba leaves against a concrete background, to create a logo for the website.
Using a close up image of the artwork, I traced the leaf and experimented with colour, opacity and detail.
I used the shade of yellow that she had used in previous branding and chose Arial as a classic font.

Content:

For the ‘About’ content on the website, I used an artist biography that Patricia had written and used key points to write a condensed summary. I also used the artist portrait of Patricia alongside close ups of the ‘Rhizome, 2019’ piece to tie together the logo with the artist.

ALT Text:

Patricia’s work is so visually striking that ALT text can be difficult to write. I used the descriptions of the materials already attached to the artwork, combined with the rich colours. The aim is to convey the different senses evoked by Patricia’s art.

The names of the image files follow the format:
